The swim not only presented a physically demanding challenge, but also an opportunity for Jon and Nick to show their support for the charity.
Jon and Nick first became friends at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, where their son's both received treatment for cancer. It was this shared experience that bonded the two families.
Jon and Nick's experience at CLIC House made them determined to complete a challenge that would raise as much money has possible for CLIC Sargent. The swim took two hours as they battled against the current, four foot swirl, jelly fish and the freezing cold temperatures!
Nick said: “We are not the strongest of swimmers and this was completely out of our comfort zone. It was the hardest thing I have ever done but the only thing that got me through was saying our son’s names on each and every aching stroke, from start to the finish.”
Their fantastic achievement was matched by the amazing £8,000 they managed to raise after just one month of fundraising!
CLIC Sargent fundraising manager, Kiren Fernandes said: “It costs us £105,000 a year to run CLIC House. We are entirely voluntary funded and wouldn’t be able to continue to offer this service without the support of fundraisers like Jon and Nick.”
