Twenty-year-old Joe Pearson and his mother Alyson took part in CLIC Sargent's Big Buzz head shaving fundraiser to celebrate his four years cancer free and to show their thanks for the support provided by the charity during treatment.

Joe, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in December 2007, agreed to the head shave at High Street Barbers in Calne, Wiltshire in support of the charity that helped him and his family through his cancer treatment.

Along with his mum Alyson, the life shaver completed the challenge and the pair have so far raised nearly £1,000 - smashing their original target of £400.

Alyson said: “CLIC Sargent kept me sane and provided a home from home for when Joe was undergoing treatment in Bristol.

"The CLIC Sargent Nurses and Social Workers who helped us apply for grants when Joe was poorly were amazing.”

We won’t be able to pay them back but it was a chance for us to give a little bit back for families that are in the same position we were.

She added: “I was a little bit nervous about the head shave but I didn’t care as much as I thought I might. Joe has been so much braver than me - all the children we are raising the money for are so brave."
