The charity, which offers practical, emotional and financial support for children and young people with cancer and their families, was highly commended for Charity of the Year (£10-30m) while Chief Executive Lorraine Clifton was highly commended for the Charity Principal of the Year award.
CLIC Sargent Chair Peter Hollins, who took over the role in September, said: “We are thrilled to be highly commended for two Charity Times Awards. The awards are testament to the hard work of everyone at the charity and their dedication towards supporting children and young people with cancer.
“I am delighted to see Lorraine Clifton’s superb leadership as Chief Executive has been recognised with this award. She has led the charity with great commitment and skill and CLIC Sargent has flourished under her leadership.
“These commendations not only recognise the success the charity has already had but also the ambitions we have to grow in the future.”
In 2013/14 CLIC Sargent was able to support 6,650 families and also opened a new Home from Home for children in Belfast, which will allow families in Northern Ireland to stay together, close to hospital, while their child is being treated. A second Home from Home, for young people, is due to open in Belfast next year.
Another highlight was the continued growth of the charity’s Young People’s Service, including the development of a new role – the CLIC Sargent Young People’s Community Worker, which gives young people with a cancer diagnosis support within their own communities.
In 2014 CLIC Sargent was also awarded the Hear by Right Gold Status by the National Youth Agency, recognising the opportunities the charity gives young people to influence its work. This year also saw the conclusion of business improvement programme Better by Design, which will save the charity £1.1m a year.
The Charity Times Awards ceremony was held in Lancaster London Hotel on Wednesday October 22. CLIC Sargent’s corporate partnership with Lidl UK was also shortlisted for Corporate National Partnership of the Year with a Retailer.
