Padstow's Kernow Players raise £4,000 for cancer charities

The Kernow Players were joined by representatives of CLIC Sargent, The Chestnut Appeal, Cornwall Hospice Care and Children's Hospice South West at the LittleTheatre, Padstow on 8 February. The charities each received cheques of £1,000, the proceeds of the Player's recent production of Calendar Girls.

Sue Norfolk chairman of The Kernow Players said: "This show came off the back of a 2012 fundraising success when we held a charity ball and produced our own version of a nude calendar to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care and Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust in which we raised over £3,000.

"So in a moment of madness when I heard that the performing rights had been made available for a limited time for the stage play, I foolishly suggested that it might be 'such fun!' to put on the play in our own Little Theatre!"

Sue went on to say: "Raising the staggering amount of £4,000 was no mean feat from this small company, I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who made this possible."

Stephanie Cherington-Rimmell, CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager for Cornwall said: "We are so grateful to the Kernow Players for raising this wonderful amount for CLIC Sargent and all the charities they supported. This fantastic donation will go a long way to help us continue to provide support for children and young people with cancer in Cornwall and across the UK"
