North Wales runners raise over £33,000

The team was formed mainly of the family members of children and young people who have been supported by CLIC Sargent.

Jeff Jones from Rhyl was part of Rhian's running team. He chose to take part as CLIC Sargent has supported his child through their cancer treatment.

He said: “It's brilliant to wake up in the morning when you’re full of nerves to know that you are not alone. There is a fantastic team, not just the runners who meet up before the run at the start, but the amazing support waiting to help you every step of the way.

"It's a huge boost to know that you will soon see and hear the very loud CLIC Sargent family at the various points of the course.”

Claire Jones and Emma Jones from Denbigh, Wales were both part of Rhian’s team of runners for the Virgin London Marathon.

Claire said: “The day was amazing and electric from start to finish and one we will never forget. Our best cheers and support came from the CLIC Sargent cheer points and fellow CLIC Sargent runners, and this helped immensely.

Emma added: “Our mission was to finish the marathon having raised as much money for CLIC Sargent as possible and our prize was the finishing line.

“I would encourage anyone to run the marathon for CLIC Sargent, we have had an experience of a lifetime, from the training to the fundraising, we will never forget this past year.”

CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager, Vicki Moore said: “Rhian and her team have raised an incredible amount for CLIC Sargent. Their hard training has really paid off and the money they have raised will help us to keep providing support for other families like themselves. It’s great to hear they all enjoyed the event on the day too!”

The money raised by Rhian’s running team could pay for a CLIC Sargent Play Specialist for a year. A CLIC Sargent Play Specialist’s primary role is to work with the children and young people to help them understand their radiotherapy treatment, increasing their confidence in the treatment, reducing risks and most importantly making a potentially frightening experience easier to cope with.
