Superstar Danny runs 500 miles in memory of Rachel

At the beginning of 2017, Danny Bates from Basingstoke set himself an epic challenge of running 500 miles in registered races in memory of his partner Rachel.

Superstar Danny runs 500 miles in memory of Rachel

Danny was inspired to run 500 miles for Rachel after remembering the time they both enjoyed the Proclaimers headlining at the Cropredy Folk Festival in 2015. Danny has now completed 36 runs, totalling 501.5 miles!

As the song goes, "I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more"- 34 of Dannys friends and family have added to the '500 more' tally and have also run more than 500 miles! Danny, his friends and family have raised a staggering £8,581 for CLIC Sargent and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Danny said: "Rachel meant an incredible amount to me, our families and our friends.

"Together, we have accumulated many happy memories with Rachel, which is a testament to her loving, caring and witty character."

"Running this year has helped us cope with the loss of Rachel, as well as recalling memories of the many good times we had spent together. Many of my runs have been in places we had created memories together, whether it was during one of our walks around Alice Holt, day trips to Portsmouth, or hiring a beach hut in Bournemouth as part of Rachels 'Make a Wish'."

CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Emma Matthews said: "What Danny has done is an amazing achievement and fantastic lasting tribute to Rachel, and for Danny and Rachel's friends and family to take part in the challenge as well is wonderful.

"The money Danny has raised for CLIC Sargent, will make a significant difference in how we can support families at such a tough time in their lives."
