The 19 strong walkers, along with their support team Anna Hagan and Vikki Stanford, set off with everyone completing the walk in less than 15 hours – the first group led by Mel Burke finished in just nine-and-a-half hours.
Duty manager Alexandra Burke, along with colleagues Domonique Shrubb and Jodie Dowling, were behind this hugely successful challenge, organising practice walks and taking advantage of Dom’s mountain rescue experience to ensure the walk ran as smoothly as possible.
Alexandra said: “it was such a massive achievement, the teamwork came through and morale was just so high – the energy was just there.
“Even when my group, the third group, took a call from Mel to let us know they had finished and were tucking into scampi and chips at the pub, we kept on going and received massive cheers at the end, it was really quite moving.”
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Maria Healy said:
“The Skywalker team are one to watch, the couple of goals they have already set themselves show they go for it 100%.
“It’s clear that they enjoy working as a team and enjoy taking on a challenge.
“I'd like to thank everyone for their enthusiasm, we are lucky to have supporters like the Skywalkers who have totally embraced CLIC Sargent as their charity; the money they raise makes such a vital difference to families in the Manchester area.”
