Popcorn partnership gives cancer charity a tasty £26,000 in two years

Leading popcorn company Metcalfe’s Skinny has celebrated raising more than £26,000 in two years for young people’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

Staff at the London-based company, which rebranded its sea salt flavour as charity popcorn to raise funds and awareness for CLIC Sargent, celebrated the two year milestone with charity staff.

When the partnership was launched in February 2014 the company pledged a minimum donation of £30,000 for the charity, which supports children and young people with cancer, and their families.

The total raised, including individual staff fundraising, has already reached £26,912.63, putting the company well on track to hit its target.

During the celebration, Byron Geldard, who was supported by CLIC Sargent through a social worker and a financial grant following his diagnosis with testicular cancer when he was 18 years old.

He said: "I honestly don’t know how I would have coped without the emotional support provided by CLIC Sargent."

"People don’t understand what it is you’re going through and you need that help. It’s great that Metcalfe’s Skinny has been doing such great fundraising for them.”

Rachel Kirby-Rider, Director of Fundraising at CLIC Sargent, said: “The support we have received from Metcalfe’s Skinny over the last two years has been fantastic.

"As well as the fantastic fundraising efforts, the regular donations of free popcorn treats to our Homes from Home really put a smile on a lot of young patients’ faces. It’s also fantastic to see the charity featured so prominently on Metcalfe’s packs of popcorn in shops all over the UK.

“The vital funds raised by this partnership will help CLIC Sargent in its aim to change what it means to be diagnosed with cancer when you’re young, while helping children and young people cope with cancer and get the most out of life.”
