Everybody needs good neighbours

After the hearing the devastating news that her neighbour’s 18 month daughter Matilda had been diagnosed with cancer, Alison Stark from Suffolk wanted to do something to help. She organised a tea party and fun day and with the support of the local community raised £2,020 for CLIC Sargent.

Matilida’s parents Jade and Raymond have really appreciated the support given by CLIC Sargent and they suggested that Alison organised a fundraising event for the charity.

Jade said, “Our world crumbled when Matilda first got diagnosed and we didn't really have much of an understanding of childhood cancer, as you rarely hear about it. Then we met Matilda's CLIC Sargent Nurses, who were extremely patient with us and answered all the questions we were firing at them, we really couldn't have got through the past few months without them, that's why we decided to hold this event, to show them how much their work means to all of us.”

Alison embraced her challenge with great enthusiasm and arranged an all day tea party and fun day at their local church in August.  She organised a raffle, face painting, pyjama drama, a magician, bouncy castle and Peppa Pig!  Over 200 people enjoyed the fun in the sun, and they raised a sensational £2,020 on the day!  This money will kick start a Matilda Seager Fund for CLIC Sargent.

Alison said “I am so pleased we have raised this incredible amount, we had set a target of £500 but we raised that on the raffle alone! Thank you to all those wonderful people who provided help both on the day and in the build up to the event, and we are very grateful to local businesses for donating some fantastic raffle prizes and to the entertainers for donating their time. We plan to make this an annual event as it was so popular and a great way to support this important charity.”

Local fundraising manager for CLIC Sargent, Alison Ramsay said “We want to say a very big thank you to Alison for all the hard work she put into organising her first ever fundraising event, and thank you to all those who supported it so generously.”
