Tribute to Kathryn Logan, 13, raises over £54,000 for CLIC Sargent

The event

The fundraiser was organised by Kathryn’s mum Janice and a voluntary committee, together with CLIC Sargent, as a thank you to the charity that helped care for Kathryn.

The ball included a champagne reception, three course meal, prize auctions and dancing to a swing band. More than 350 business owners and supporters turned out in force to show their support for the cause.

Janice Logan, owner of Distinction Health and Beauty in Glasgow, said: "When Kathryn was diagnosed with leukaemia it was devastating for the whole family.

"CLIC Sargent was a huge support for us – from our CLIC Sargent Social Worker who helped both practically and emotionally, to the CLIC Sargent Nurses who went into Kathryn’s school to explain what was happening to her classmates and teachers.

"The ball was a chance for us to give something back to CLIC Sargent and help other children with cancer and their families."

Money raised from the ball will help CLIC Sargent's Scotland Homes from Home Appeal, which is raising vital funds to provide accommodation near to new hospitals in Glasgow and Edinburgh. The homes mean families can stay close to their children during cancer treatment.

CLIC Sargent needs to raise £3million in Scotland to provide new homes when the two current ones close near Glasgow's Yorkhill Hospital and Edinburgh's  Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Rachael McLean said: "Our Homes from Home give vital support to families whose lives have been turned upside down, providing a homely and friendly place for them to stay together during treatment.

"The ball was brilliant. We are very grateful to our wonderful committee, our main sponsors FourPly and VShips, and all who donated a prize to the auction or joined us on the night.

"Everyone worked really hard over the last few months to prepare for the big night and it was a fantastic evening.

"Every penny of profit raised will help us to be able to continue to provide this vital support for children and young people with cancer, and their families."
