Over the last decade, Luke Claxton from Hartford has raised over £200,000 for chosen charity CLIC Sargent in memory of his mum, Veronica Claxton. Luke is supported by an army of Cambridgeshire family and friends and the ambitious team aims to raise £250,000 to support young lives against cancer.
Reflecting on the latest cycle challenge, Luke said: “We were away from the pub for 57 hours in total and managed to cycle 355 miles, climb 15200 ft, with two ferry crossings, seven hours sleep and three countries visited. We managed to raise well over £10,000 for young lives vs cancer.”
On arrival back in Hartford, the team of 21 riders and four support crew were greeted by a wonderful crowd, where they were presented with a cheque for £1000 from the customers and staff at the Belgians pub.
This ride was part of a series of events taking place in 2018, including the London Marathon and an 80 mile walk around 13 London football stadiums across three days.
Emma Taylor, Fundraising Manager at CLIC Sargent said:
“A huge thank you to everyone that took part in Luke’s latest amazing challenge for CLIC Sargent. This was one of the toughest challenges the team have undertaken and we are so grateful they chose to take this on in aid of CLIC Sargent”
"I hope that all of Luke’s loyal supporters know that the money they have raised will be used to support the 78 children and young people in the Cambridgeshire area who have been given the devastating news that they have cancer. I’m really looking forward to the next fundraiser the team have in store for us!”
