CLIC Sargent is celebrating the overwhelming fundraising efforts of its flagship corporate partner; pub group, J D Wetherspoon.

The UK-wide pub chain has announced raising a staggering £6m pounds for young cancer patients over the last decade, smashing its fundraising target to coincide with marking a 10 year relationship with the charity.

All of the money raised by the company’s 862 pubs has been achieved through fundraising events, created to link in with key dates during the J D Wetherspoon calendar, to generate income for CLIC Sargent, and increase partnership awareness.

High profile initiatives devised to highlight the work and aims of the charity in local communities include ‘KICK for CLIC Sargent’, a UK-wide staff football tournament that has been running for 10 years and last year involved 48 per cent of pubs, and raised over £350,000.  Other notable projects include Team Wetherspoon taking part in the 2010 Virgin London Marathon and raising £472,756.

They will also be launching opportunities in the future for young cancer survivors looking to gain work experience in the hospitality industry via the pubs.  Such projects will help achieve CLIC Sargent’s aim to support young people with cancer, as well as link in with the company ethos to grow young people’s potential through their organisation.
Commenting on J D Wetherspoon’s £6m achievement, CLIC Sargent CEO, Lorraine Clifton, said: “This is such a fantastic accomplishment and I want to personally thank all the customers and staff at Wetherspoon for their on-going support, enthusiasm and commitment.  This year has been one of the partnership's most successful yet, with £1m being raised in just nine months.”
“Wetherspoon’s long standing support has meant we have been able to continue our vital work, providing practical, emotional and financial support to children and young people with cancer, and their families.  At present we only reach two out of three children and young people with cancer, but the company’s continuous commitment until 2015 will help us move closer to closing that gap.”
