Smiths News IT team raises £2,150 by completing 24hr Three Peaks Challenge

24 Hour Three Peaks Challenge

The team of seven colleagues, who called themselves ‘The Magnificent Seven’, took on the challenging trek of the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours.

They organised this tough trek to raise funds in support of four year old Joshua who receiving treatment for cancer.

Team members Andrew Caple, Marcus Cotes, Andy Taylor, Brett Hanley, Alan Stone, Victoria Enebeli, Brinn Jardine and Sally Willavoys first tackled the 10 and a half mile climb and descent of Ben Nevis. The team then clocked up a further nine and a half miles completing Scafell Pike, and completed the final leg of their trek with a seven mile route of Snowdon.

As well as battling sleep deprivation, the team faced treacherous weather conditions which meant that they were just short of finishing the challenge within their 24 hour aim, but still managed an impressive finish time of 27 hours.

Team member, Andrew said: “It was a tough challenge. The weather slowed us down and affected the driving too. However, we’ve raised £2,150 for Joshua’s fund. We’re delighted with this amount and would like to thank everyone who has donated and supported us.”

Joshua’s Support Me fund

Family and friends of Joshua are hoping to raise enough to pay for a family room for a year in one of CLIC Sargent’s Homes from Home, with Joshua’s Support Me fund.

CLIC Sargent has eight Homes from Home, located near seven principal treatment centres, where families can stay for free during their child’s cancer treatment.

Joshua’s parents, Stuart and Sophie said: “Our sincere thanks goes out to the Smiths News team who took on this gruelling trek in support of Joshua and all the other families requiring CLIC Sargent’s vital services.

"We are truly touched by the support we have received since Joshua’s diagnosis and congratulate the team for completing their challenge.”

CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager, Sophie Porfirio said: “On behalf of CLIC Sargent, I can’t thank the Smiths News team enough for enduring this tough challenge in support of Joshua.

"With the treacherous conditions they had to compete with, the time they completed the peaks in was truly amazing."
