Pair to kayak around mainland UK coast to raise funds

Lee Pooley and Nick Arding from Devon are taking on the challenge of circumnavigating mainland UK by kayak, a total of 2,400 miles, to raise funds for CLIC Sargent.

Departing on Friday 17 May from Longmarsh Car Park in Totnes, the pair are taking on the challenge in aid of CLIC Sargent and The Marine Conservation Society, to raise funds for and awareness of the work of both charities.

Lee and Nick, both expedition paddlers, had had the idea of kayaking around the UK coast to break no records, and just enjoy the scenery. However, upon further investigation they realised that at their planned leisurely pace it would take them the whole summer!

They began to realise the enormity of their task when they discovered that Nigel Dennis and Paul Caffyn completed the first circumnavigation of mainland UK in 1980 in 85 days, and since then it has only been completed by a further 11 people.

Some serious training and lots of preparation later and they are nearing their departure date. Lee and Nick aim to complete the challenge in three months.
