Newcastle City Hall hosts the 35th CLIC Sargent Christmas Carol Concert

Newcastle City Hall hosted the 35th CLIC Sargent Christmas Carol Concert to support young lives against cancer. The event saw New Tyneside Orchestra, Newcastle Combined Hospital Choirs, the CLIC Sargent Singers and choirs from four local schools come together to spread festive cheer.

The concert committee organised a wonderful event that, for many attendees, marked the start of the festive season.

The event drew approximately 900 guests, with almost £1,700 taken from raffle, program and merchandise sales. Money raised through ticket sales and money taken at the City Hall is still to be confirmed.

A group effort

The audience enjoyed the beautiful voices of the Hospital Choir, accompanied by the talented New Tyneside Orchestra. Four school choirs also joined the festivities, hailing from Highfield Middle School in Prudhoe, St Joseph’s RC Middle School in Hexham, The King’s Priory School in Tynemouth and Cullercoats Primary School.

The CLIC Sargent Singers, a group of young musicians who have been supported by CLIC Sargent, performed an upbeat collection of songs. The performance included an original song written by the group during a week-long annual residential. The residential was organised by CLIC Sargent's music programme, which celebrated it's 10th anniversary this year.

Last minute support

A few new faces stepped in this year to provide crucial support. North Tyneside Local and lead musician Will Lang took on the role of compere. Meanwhile, Aidan Hodgson, Musical Director of the Dunston Silver Band, stepped in to help conduct the event. The committee expressed their gratitude towards those who helped make the event possible.

As the lead musician for the CLIC Sargent music programme, Will is touring with the CLIC Sargent Singers. You can catch the group at concerts across the UK.

CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Dee Tyler said: “This is a magical event to be involved in. I am very lucky to work with the committee, volunteers and everyone else involved in the event.

"A lot of hard work goes into the organisation and I hope the committee realise how much we appreciate that."
