CLIC Sargent is a charity close to the hearts of many at Mears as the charity has helped support the family of nine-year-old Thomas, the son of one of member of staff.
Thomas was only three when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and is still receiving cancer treatment.
CLIC Sargent has helped provide his family with emotional, practical and financial support. Thomas’s CLIC Sargent Nurse also visits him weekly reducing the need to go to hospital, which means he can spend more time at home with his family and at school with friends.
In support of Thomas
To raise funds in support of Thomas, Mears staff members firstly took on a very blustery 10k run and then just four days later completed double the distance along the River Avon Trail from Bristol to Bath.
Blazing sunshine and blisters didn’t stop them from successfully completing the walk in less than six hours.
Thomas’s dad said: “The team and I are delighted to be able to support such a fantastic organisation. We are thankful to The Mears Foundation and all of our sponsors for the money raised. Thomas and I are very grateful for the ongoing support from CLIC Sargent.”
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Kiren Fernandes said: "We’d like to thank Chris, the staff at Mears and of course the Mears Foundation for all of their fantastic fundraising for CLIC Sargent.
"To date Thomas’s Fund has raised almost £10,000 for CLIC Sargent. This money could help CLIC Sargent keep a family together during treatment by allowing them to stay at one of our Homes from Home."
"Here families will have access to free self-catering accommodation near to specialist children’s cancer treatment centres, which are often many miles from a family’s own home.”
