Family plans the ‘big push’ for local charities

During David Hayward's cancer treatment at the Royal Marsden Hospital, CLIC Sargent provided support for him and his family. Now the Hayward’s are planning to give something back to the charity by organising a 21 mile wheelchair push fundraiser.

The Hayward family are organising a sponsored wheelchair push starting from their home in Crawley and ending at the Royal Marsden in Sutton, Surrey – a distance of just over 21 miles.

Throughout his treatment David and his family were supported by a CLIC Sargent through a specialised CLIC Sargent Social Worker, who helped provide practical and emotional support.

CLIC Sargent's team of Social Workers at the Royal Marsden Hospital offer invaluable support to families at a very difficult time. They help with all sorts of things, from organising financial help, to being there for families to turn to for emotional support when they need it most.

The wheelchair push will also raise funds for Young Epilepsy, a charity that supports the 112,000 children and young people across the UK with epilepsy and associated conditions.

David Hayward’s mother, Tricia said: “CLIC Sargent helped us at a very difficult time.

"When David was diagnosed we were in shock, our CLIC Sargent Social Worker was there from the start with help and support.

“We are looking forward to the challenge and to raising lots of money for these two amazing charities.”

CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager, Dan Powell said: “We are delighted that Tricia has chosen to support CLIC Sargent and Young Epilepsy. Both charities rely on their supporters to raise funds to continue with their vital work with children and young people. Good luck to everyone who is taking part!”

Chloe Edwards, Community Fundraising Manager at Young Epilepsy, said: “A massive thank you to the Hayward family for raising money for Young Epilepsy as well as CLIC Sargent.

"21 miles will be a long push but the vital funds raised for both charities will go on to support many more young people and children. Best of luck.”
