Julia is Head of the Oak Centre for Children and Young People and Consultant Paediatric Oncologist at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. She is also Paediatric Pathway Group Co-chair for the London Cancer Alliance and is currently involved in work to reconfigure and improve paediatric oncology services in and around London.
Dr Chisholm has a strong interest in ensuring that children and young people with cancer have holistic care, combining the best clinical treatments with wider support from a mutli-disciplinary team and other support organisations including CLIC Sargent. She has a research interest in soft tissue cancers and has been leading an important clinical trial for a new treatment for children and young people with rhabdomyosarcoma – the commonest type of soft tissue cancer in children.
Prior to joining the team at The Royal Marsden in March 2010, Dr Julia Chisholm was a consultant in the children’s cancer team at Great Ormond Street Hospital for 10 years. This will be Dr Chisholm’s first role as a trustee of a charity.
Dr Chisholm commented: “I have been working alongside CLIC Sargent care teams for over fifteen years. They play a vital role in supporting children and young people with cancer, and their families, through a very difficult time. So I’m delighted that I now have the opportunity to use my experience to help shape the future of the charity, and help CLIC Sargent achieve its ambition to develop and expand its support so that every child and young person with cancer can access the practical and emotional support they need.”
CLIC Sargent Chief Executive, Lorraine Clifton said: “We are delighted that Julia Chisholm is joining the CLIC Sargent Trustee board. With her experience and knowledge, I know she will make an important contribution to developing the charity’s support in the coming years. I and the rest of the team at CLIC Sargent are looking forward to working with her.”
