Maddison Harris wins Young Fundraiser of the Year at JustGiving Awards for raising over £40,000 for CLIC Sargent

The ninth annual JustGiving Awards took place on Tuesday evening to celebrate amazing individuals, charities and teams who have fundraised to change lives and make a positive contribution to charities and good causes. Our very own fundraiser Maddison Harris took home the award for Young Fundraiser of the Year, for her Brave the Shave challenge ‘Don’t Stare It’s Only Hair’.

Maddison was diagnosed with Leukemia (ALL) last year and decided to start the campaign to change the way people see young cancer patients and to show people that hair loss does not have to be something to fear. Since launching her challenge, Maddison has raised over £40,000 for CLIC Sargent.

Maddison was just 7 years old when she was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford unable to walk from pain in her spine. A few days later she was diagnosed with ALL and started a 2 year treatment of chemotherapy, which has meant she has been experiencing hair loss. Maddison is a larger than life character and according to her Mum, treats leukemia the way she treats everything else, with a smile and a shrug of her shoulders. She has inspired her local community to fundraise, shave their heads, to create social media accounts and to be brave and fearless!

Alina Kairi, CLIC Sargent Fundraising Engagement Manager, said: “Everyone at CLIC Sargent can’t thank Maddison and all her supporters enough for their incredible fundraising efforts. Despite facing such a difficult time, Maddison has faced everything with a smile and inspired so many people in the local community and beyond, to shave their heads or fundraise through the Don’t Stare It’s Only Hair campaign, raising a phenomenal amount of money. She is a hero in our eyes and and the vital funds she has raised will go to help so many other children to get the support they need for years to come.”
