No stocking by the fireplace, no presents under the tree, no Christmas dinner round the table. When you’re going through cancer treatment at Christmas, it’s as if Christmas gets cancelled. You can help keep families together to stop that happening.

Matilda was just three years old when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in December 2016. With a three hour round trip to get to the hospital to be at Matilda’s bedside and a newborn son to care for, her family were at breaking point.

Their CLIC Sargent Social Worker saw that they couldn’t carry on and found the family a room at CLIC House, a CLIC Sargent Home from Home. For the family it changed everything. It meant they were only a short walk away from Matilda and had a base where the rest of the family could stay together. CLIC House was where they spent the first of three Christmases that were affected by cancer.

This year will be the family’s fourth Christmas as a foursome. So far, cancer has robbed them of making many of those special Christmas memories that every family deserves. This year Matilda, who is now six years old and cancer free, can’t wait to sprinkle the magic food outside for Santa’s reindeer.

Gabby, Matilda’s mum, talks about how cancer has cancelled so many Christmases for their family.
