The house itself is amazing, it’s so well run, Mandy and Sandra are just lovely and go out of their way to make things bearable when you are dealing with so much as a family. Ciaran’s house was an amazing resource and we used it right through Aaron’s treatment.

How Ciaran’s House got its name

In 2018 we launched a competition to name Ciaran’s House, asking families who had stayed at our old Home from Home in Edinburgh, CLIC Villa, to put forward nominations.

The winning name was put forward by young cancer patient Reon, 13, whose brother Ciaran, 16, twice donated him his bone marrow, after he was diagnosed with leukaemia. The boys’ mum Aileen said: “This is fantastic news – I am feeling very emotional. CLIC Sargent has been an absolute rock for my family.”

Votes for the name came from as far afield as America and Australia to name our new Home from Home, which saw three other families nominate their ‘cancer heroes’. In honour of all four names put forward for the vote, we decided to take the initial from each cancer hero (Ciaran, April, Leona and Ian) and name a room ‘CALI’s Room’.
