Joshua was diagnosed with a rare type of lymphoma last April when he was three years old.
“I remember the doctor saying I’m really sorry, it’s lymphoma. I collapsed screaming and crying, our world fell apart in a minute”, his mum, Jane, explains.
“The very next day Joshua started chemotherapy and it made him incredibly ill. I felt hopeless and didn’t know where to turn.”
Support from CLIC Sargent
Joshua and his family were provided with vital support from their CLIC Sargent Social Worker, Saiorse.
Jane says: “When we met Saiorse, it was such a relief. She was amazing. She had so much time to talk to us, to listen to us, reassure and support us, she was incredible.”
She gave the family a copy of CLIC Sargent’s Cakes and Chemotherapy book to help his brother and sister understand what was happening and make it less scary.
Saiorse also helped Joshua’s parents explain to their employers why they both needed to be off work so they could be there for their family during this difficult time.
“We just wouldn’t have been able to cope without the support from CLIC Sargent, they helped us see through the darkness and come to terms with our situation.”
