11-year-old Jessica and her family were supported by their CLIC Sargent Social Worker, Pat, after Jessica was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2010.
Pat met with Jessica's family soon after her diagnosis to help them understand and cope with the emotional, practical and financial effects of cancer through treatment and beyond.
Jessica’s mum, Claire explains: “Pat was great. He told us about all the different services on offer... he put us on the right track for that and told us what we were entitled to.
“Pat was there for us the whole way through. I can’t really explain what the support he gave us meant. Your world just turns upside-down; if he hadn’t been there I know it would have been even harder.
Having the support CLIC Sargent offers makes it easier... They have truly helped our family along that journey.
"I’ve always felt supported by CLIC Sargent, I know that I just have to pick up the phone if there’s anything at all.
"While your child is receiving life-saving treatment, you lose a sense of control, but having the support CLIC Sargent offers makes it easier to go through. They have truly helped our family along that journey.”
