About the appeal

CLIC Sargent Homes from Home are havens for parents and families during treatment, reducing the financial cost and emotional strain of cancer so that families can stay together during the toughest times. We have ambitious plans for a CLIC Sargent Home from Home in Edinburgh that will be a real safe haven for up to nine families at once.

About the appeal

In 2013, in response to NHS plans to relocate the Glasgow and Edinburgh hospitals caring for children and young people with cancer, we launched a £3.3 million fundraising appeal to relocate our Homes from Home to remain close to the new paediatric oncology wards.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, including Children with Cancer UK and the Crerar Trust, we opened Marion’s House in Glasgow in 2016, and have secured the site for our new Home from Home in Edinburgh.

We need to raise the remaining £155,000 to renovate this space and complete the move.

Glasgow Home from Home

Marion’s House is a purpose built, 11 family bedroomed house just 10 minutes’ walk from the new Royal Hospital for Children and Queen Elizabeth’s University Hospital.  Families benefit from laundry facilities, three kitchen diners, three lounges, a play room, a teenage space and a secure garden. Since Marion’s House opened, 87 families have stayed for an average of 29 days.

Edinburgh Home from Home

CLIC Villa in Edinburgh has been a Home from Home for 19 years. In 2016/17, we had 152 family stays, with a further 53 non-resident families with children on the cancer wards using the facilities.

In anticipation of the imminent hospital move, we have secured a property on Old Dalkeith Road near the new Edinburgh hospital. There is a need to renovate and extend the existing house to make it a welcoming nine family-bedroomed haven away from the wards.

Crerar Trust partnership

CLIC Sargent has a long-standing partnership with Crerar Trust, dating back to 1997 when they donated the properties for the first Home from Homes in Edinburgh and Glasgow. The Crerar Trust’s generosity support the building of Marion’s House.

A key element of the Trust's support is the promise to match, pound for pound, the final £425,000 of donations. In light of this, CLIC Sargent has launched a high profile appeal running until June 2018.
