Every family’s experience is unique – from how cancer affects your child to the impact it has on your family life. CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. We provide clinical, practical and emotional support to help children and young people cope with cancer and get the most out of life.
This section contains more information about how CLIC Sargent can help children under 16 and their families. We also have information for children older than 16 in our young people’s section.
Emotional and practical support
We know every family's experience is unique. That's why CLIC Sargent health and social care professionals offer support with a wide range of aspects, like managing relationships, sorting out practicalities and liaising with your child's school. They will help the whole family deal with the impact of cancer, treatment and life after.
When your child is being treated for cancer, you will almost certainly have extra costs. CLIC Sargent can help you access financial support, such as benefits, allowances and grants. Our welfare advisers can also offer free advice.
CLIC Sargent healthcare professionals support children under 16 and their families during treatment. Our CLIC Sargent Nurses work in every principal treatment centre in Great Britain. We also have eight CLIC Sargent Play Specialists who support younger children in several principal treatment centres across the UK.
Your child’s cancer treatment may need to take place a long way from where you live, and you could find yourself making long journeys and paying for overnight stays. Our Homes from Home are located near principal treatment centres, where families can stay for free during their child’s cancer treatment.
Finding out your child has cancer is a frightening experience and may have an overwhelming impact on your day-to-day life. Our information is designed to support you with many different aspects of childhood cancer - from the impact on siblings, work, education, life in hospital and much more.
