After being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 16, she’s now celebrating 15 years in
remission and explains how she came to be a CLIC Sargent volunteer.
"I’ll always be grateful to my two amazing CLIC Sargent Nurses, Gillian and Andre, who gave me and my family the gift of time. I support CLIC Sargent so that other young people and their families can benefit from the incredible support they offer."
Ten years after finishing chemotherapy, Michelle has taken on several fundraising activities to raise money for CLIC Sargent. In amongst training for the more physical challenges, Michelle was keen to give CLIC Sargent the gift of her time, and volunteer at some of our exciting events.
‘My favourite volunteering memory was earlier this year doing the bucket collection at the Kaiser Chiefs gig in Brighton. We raised an amazing amount, people were really nice and Kaiser Chiefs were awesome!’
Why I volunteer
"I volunteer because I really believe in the work CLIC Sargent does, and a few hours of doing a bucket collection can make such a difference. You can do so many things to raise money; you can have lots of fun and even do something you wouldn’t normally!"
Mark has experienced CLIC Sargent's support first hand the charity supported him and his family through his cancer treatment. He is especially grateful of the expert support he received from his local CLIC Sargent Support Worker whom he now considers a friend for life.
Since being in remission, Mark has wanted to give something back and has volunteered at a number of varied CLIC Sargent fundraising events in the North West - from attending Wallasey Masonic Lodge fundraising meetings, giving out medals at fundraising events, to helping at a bucket collection at two Kaiser Chiefs’ concerts.
"You are always well looked after and it helps improve so many skills and you always have the backing of a big and well recognised charity.”
Why I volunteer
Mark said, “I feel proud to be able to give something back to a fantastic charity like CLIC Sargent. It has given me confidence, improved my social skills."
