The spectacular Torre Abbey Ball was held in September, for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, where over 150 guests enjoyed a fun filled evening, held at the iconic Torre Abbey. They were delighted by a three course meal and range of live music including Sean from Jack Pack who appeared on Britain’s Got Talent.
In addition to the lovely food and the fantastic setting, the guests enjoyed performances from the Blurred Lines, the Riviera Sound ‘Girls V Boys’ sing off and chanced their luck on the casino table.
This event was in aid of CLIC Sargent and was organised by the Riviera sound choir but in particular, Marie- Elizabeth Ashcroft and her mother; they raised an incredible £2,744.
Riviera Sound public relations officer, Amanda Malcolm said: “As a chorus that has been touched by cancer in various ways over the years we decided to support CLIC Sargent in 2016.
"Our fundraising included a free event in July at Torre Abbey in Torquay, green charity chip in Waitrose and culminating in our gala event, The first Spanish Barn Ball in the historic Spanish Barn at Torre Abbey. We had lots of special guests and a great evening was had by all."
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Jordan Anderton said: “CLIC Sargent is extremely grateful for the support we have received from the Riviera Sound. The money they have raised will make a huge difference to the families we support.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Marie, Drina and everyone involved in the Riviera Sound Choir for all your hard work. You have put on a fantastic and memorable occasion for many while supporting young people with cancer and their families. Thank you.”
Making a difference
The money raised from the event could fund a room in one of CLIC Sargent’s Homes from Home for 83 nights, providing free self-catering accommodation near to specialist children’s cancer treatment centres, which are often many miles from a family’s own home.
Staying in a Home from Home ensures a family can not only be close to their child during treatment, but also elevates any financial concerns on where to stay. If they are well enough, the child or young person can stay there too.
These homes save families on average £2,140 and the average stay in a CLIC Sargent Home from Home is 23 days.
