Morrisons

Morrisons is helping families facing cancer this spring, with promotional packs of British strawberries now on sale. The supermarket is partnered with CLIC Sargent until 2020 and has raised more than £3.7m to date.

Morrisons is reintroducing its promotional packs of its own British strawberries, where 10% of the sale value will go straight to CLIC Sargent.

The packs will feature the Young Lives Vs Cancer logo, and are expected to help raise £62,000 for CLIC Sargent – the UK’s leading charity supporting children and young people with cancer and Morrisons’ charity partner.

This is the second year Morrisons has run the promotion, after raising just over £61,000 this time last year.

Emma Spencer, Morrisons Strawberry Buyer, said:

“Our first crop of British Strawberries is always exciting – and this year we are once again delighted to mark this moment by supporting the incredible work CLIC Sargent does to help children, young people and their families facing cancer.”

Morrisons colleagues chose CLIC Sargent to be their Raise A Smile charity partner in January 2017. The partnership will last until 2020, and is expected to raise more than £8m. That money will transform the support CLIC Sargent can give to families following a cancer diagnosis. Some of our families have shared their favourite strawberry recipes - all made with Morrisons British strawberries of course!

Oklahoma 'Proton Beam' strawberry pancakes

The Whiston family spent eight weeks in Oklahoma, USA, last year while daughter Amber, 8, had proton beam therapy to control the growth of her brain tumour. They have shared their favourite pancake recipe that reminds them of their trip.

Alan's soothing strawberry milkshake

When Alan was on chemotherapy to treat Burkitts Lymphoma, he was left with mouth ulcers that made swallowing painful. But the youngster could always stomach soft fruits like berries, and would love to have strawberry milkshake.

Morrisons British Strawberries (227g, £2) are available in stores across the country, and online now.

Why young cancer patients need Morrisons' support

Nobody thinks it will happen to their child. Until it does. CLIC Sargent provides the vital help to stop cancer destroying young lives. Right now, for every two families we help there is one not currently receiving the support they desperately need. We want to be there for all of them. A partnership with Morrisons will transform this:

People: we'll create a brand new team of CLIC Sargent nurse educators to educate other health, social care and education professionals close to families’ homes, so that they have the skills and experience to provide the best possible care for young lives against cancer.

Places: we’ll create new Home Comforts close to Specialist Treatment Hospitals, providing a welcoming environment for families to take a much needed break from the intensity of hospital.

Practical things: we'll be able to expand our financial grants to families, so that they can focus on important things like getting well. We’ll also be able to develop a groundbreaking new digital hub, giving thousands of families who we currently can’t support access to advice from healthcare professionals from the comfort of their own home.
