Sarah Cross has been sharing her family’s cancer story through a blog she writes as a personal coping mechanism. She started the blog after her two-year-old nephew in Bude, Cornwall was diagnosed with neuroblastoma.
Sarah said: “Whenever I have felt really low I have put something on Facebook and received so many responses. It has really picked me up and lifted my spirits.”
Sarah was so inundated by support for the blog from her local community in Marlborough, Wiltshire that she decided to channel her efforts into a huge fundraiser for the town to thank them for the support she had received.
'Kick Stupid Cancer'
The event took place at the start of April as a chance for residents to come together and let their hair down while raising vital funds for CLIC Sargent.
Sarah received support from businesses across the town in the form of sponsorship to pay for the DJ and prizes for the evening raffle. The bar staff of The Roebuck Inn, which hosted the event, donated all their tips made on the evening too.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager James McDonald said: “It’s so incredible to see the whole town supporting each other in this way. I can’t thank Sarah enough for her unique event and her continuous support of CLIC Sargent.
“Sarah has also just completed the Bath Half Marathon for CLIC Sargent and is looking for her next event already. Well done, Sarah!”
