An afternoon tea and indulgence party, dubbed 'Fifty Shades of Earl Grey: Liber-Tea', raised a record £17,500 for CLIC Sargent after the final total was doubled by its organisers, chartered accountants Saffery Champness.
An exciting event
The sell-out afternoon, held at Guernsey's Duke of Richmond Hotel, was attended by 190 guests as a fitting farewell to Guernsey Fundraising Group Chair and founder Belinda Netherton, who has now formally retired.
On arrival guests were greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne followed by afternoon tea, where they were serenaded by renowned UK performers, The Singing Waiters.
The auction of a VIP package to see Ed Sheeran in concert also boosted the funds with the two tickets, flights and hotel going for £1,000.
Also attending the event was CLIC Sargent’s Chair of Trustees, Peter Hollins, who took over as head of the charity in September 2014.
End of an era
Belinda said: “It is the end of an era for me and my family, however it couldn’t have ended on a more positive note. The event was fantastic and I’m so glad that we got to share this with our national chair, Peter, to show him the vast amount of support we have received locally for such a brilliant organisation.”
Belinda set up the local branch of CLIC Sargent 14 years ago after her son, Alex, was supported by the UK charity when undergoing treatment at Southampton General Hospital.
She continued: “I am so proud of the work of my committee and that of Saffery Champness. As a relatively small island it is both gratifying and humbling to see the huge impact we have had on the support and facilities available for families going through such a difficult time.”
A great partnership
Since Saffery Champness’ involvement with CLIC Sargent in April 2012, the firm has helped to raise almost £100,000 for the charity.
Director of Saffery Champness Lisa Vizia said: “It has been such a rewarding experience for us to work with CLIC Sargent to raise funds and awareness and to directly help local families.
"It has also been a pleasure and privilege to work in partnership with Belinda who has dedicated so much of her time over the last 14 years to this worthy cause.”
The full amount raised at the event will go directly towards the running of CLIC Haven, one of CLIC Sargent's Home from homes, that provides accommodation for families while their children are undergoing treatment at Southampton General Hospital.
