The Llandudno Town Training Band is holding a Christmas concert to help raise money for CLIC Sargent. What is unusual about this concert is that at the moment, many of the players participating do not actually play an instrument at all!
The band is an enthusiastic group of brass musicians of all ages from the Llandudno area. Band conductor, Sue Hughes, has been running a free beginners course in brass playing for adults and children over the age of eight. After just four weeks of tuition, these new players will be invited to take part in the concert. To add to the excitement, experienced players of any instrument are welcome to join the band on the evening and help raise money for children and young people with cancer.
Sue Hughes says: “CLIC Sargent is a charity that came to my attention last year, when one of my daughter's school friends, Gypsy Mae, was diagnosed with a brain tumour, her family was devastated. They've come a long way in the last year and CLIC Sargent has helped them enormously, they can't sing their praises highly enough. Once we'd decided on our charity, we were trying to think up ideas to encourage more people to come along. The suggestions we came up with sounded pretty ambitious to start with but we decided it was such a worthwhile cause that we're going for it.”
The Christmas Concert will take place on 12 December 2012, 7pm at St Paul's Church Hall, Craig y Don.
