As part of its 175th anniversary celebrations, staff from the independent builders merchants, Kent Blaxill completed a 175 mile cycle ride around all of the company's East Anglia branches to help raise funds for CLIC Sargent.
55 cyclists took part mainly in teams of four with a few individuals choosing to ride all 175 miles of the route. Teams set off from Braintree in Essex at 6.30am and finished back at the Kent Blaxill Head Office in Colchester at 7.15pm where a lovely warm curry was waiting for them.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Managers Karen Roberts and Alison Ramsay were at various stops along the route to cheer them on with their CLIC Sargent coloured cheer-leader pompoms!
Simon Blaxill, Kent Blaxill Managing Director said: “We have had great feedback from those that took part. Everyone from experienced riders to relative novices participated in great spirit, which along with good weather helped to make it a fantastic day out for all. Many of them have asked whether we will hold it again next year.”
Choosing to support CLIC Sargent
CLIC Sargent was designated as the event charity after the support it provided for a young Kent Blaxill employee in Colchester who died of cancer. Simon said: “It is a charity close to the hearts of a lot of people at the company after the fantastic support it provided.”
Fundraising Manager Karen Roberts said “Staff and suppliers travelled from all over the country to take part in this event and have so far raised over £10,000 for CLIC Sargent, which is a tremendous achievement and a great way to pay tribute to their friend and colleague."
