Earlier this month (6 August), ‘Team Enfield’ set off on their walkathon from Limehouse Basin in Tower Hamlets and walked the River Lee canal towpath through five London boroughs, then beyond the city limits, to arrive at their final destination in Hertford at 7pm.
CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families, providing vital emotional, clinical, practical and financial support during and after treatment.
In 2014 Lidl UK chose CLIC Sargent as its charity partner and has since raised an incredible £1 million, which could fund 40,000 hours of care for young cancer patients.
Now, Team Enfield has added £2,500 more to the pot, and CLIC Sargent hope their success will inspire more people in the local community to sign-up and fundraise or donate to the charity during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month during September, which is sponsored by Lidl UK.
Timothy Vizer, Sales Organisations Projects Consultant, Lidl UK, said:
“It was pretty tough at times and there were plenty of blisters to deal with! But everyone pulled together to make it through to the end.
"I am really proud of what our amazing team has accomplished and we all had a great day together raising money for the vital work that CLIC Sargent does."
Fern McDonald, Fundraising Manager, CLIC Sargent said:
“Thanks to the backing of Lidl UK, the CLIC Sargent team is able to make a huge difference to the lives of thousands of families who are going through the hardest of times.
“With the help of Team Enfield and Lidl employees across the land we’re able to be there for many more children, young people and families when they need us most.”
