Two neighbouring families from Yate have raised £1,813 for CLIC Sargent after transforming their homes into ‘winter wonderlands’ for Christmas.
Gail Smith came up with the fundraising idea after a little boy in her nephew’s school was recently diagnosed with cancer.
Gail said: ‘I had never heard of CLIC Sargent until recently when my nephew’s school friend was diagnosed with cancer. During this time CLIC Sargent has been an invaluable support for the family and the choice to support them seemed obvious.”
For the two weeks, both the Smiths and their neighbours the Tremblings, stood outside every night with collection buckets to help raise money for CLIC Sargent.
On Christmas Eve, their final fundraising night, a special guest appearance from Mr and Mrs Claus, a snowman and Christmas pudding helped boost final donations.
Terry Smith, Gail’s brother, said: “This was a complete family effort. We couldn’t have done it without everyone chipping in to help. This year we were lucky to get people as far as Birmingham coming to view our lights!”
The families have managed to raise a fantastic amount for CLIC Sargent, thank you so much to the Tremblings and Smiths for all their time and effort.
