Over the next number of weeks Simon and Natasha will be working hard to recruit runners for both 'Team Simon' and 'Team Natasha' up for the challenge of taking on the Belfast Marathon 2014.
Whilst neither wants to lose, both teams will be running to help promote, and raise funds for CLIC Sargent’s Northern Ireland Homes from Home Appeal.
'Run for Home' at the Belfast City Marathon
Having completed the first Home from Home in Northern Ireland and as the official charity partner for the Belfast City Marathon, CLIC Sargent is encouraging people to ‘Run for Home’ at the event and help raise funds for a second Home from Home in Belfast.
The new property will be located within walking distance of the Belfast City Hospital and will be used by the families of teenagers and young adults undergoing a cancer treatment.
At present the average round trip for families traveling to Belfast for treatment stands at 95miles with additional monthly costs adding up to around £360.
The house will help elevate some of the pressures associated with cancer and will benefit families on a huge scale.
Both teams in preparation
Commenting on the relay event, Simon said: "'Team Simon’ is shaping up well and I’m confident my team will do the business come race day.
"I’ve decided to stick to what I know, and am roping in my four brothers to help me out. As a team I think we have that ‘je ne-sais-quoi’ element as the team will include two sets of identical twins! There is no way Natasha’s team will be able to keep up!"
"In reality this is all a bit of fun, but what the families I work with have to go through when traveling to Belfast for a cancer treatment is in no way fun. The new Home from Home is exactly what these families need.
"So, if you are thinking about taking part in this year’s Belfast City Marathon then why not put together a relay team and ‘Run for Home’ for CLIC Sargent and as an added challenge you can try and beat 'Team Simon' and 'Team Natasha’!"
Natasha from Randox Health, the official health partner of the Belfast City Marathon said: "'Team Simon’ is talking a good game at the moment, but there is a long way to go to race day…I prefer to let my running do the talking! I have earmarked a few potential team mates and I hope to have 'Team Natasha’ finalised over the coming weeks.
"I am delighted to have been asked to take part and to support CLIC Sargent’s Home from Home Appeal. I’ve taken time to get to know the charity and to learn more about its appeal…what CLIC Sargent is working towards is truly amazing."
