From their first public performance at a private party with friends, The Retros have gone from strength to strength and have now raised over £65,000 for CLIC Sargent by playing and singing popular songs at pubs and clubs around Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.
The Retros were first formed back in 2002 by Dave Viney & Rob Oliphant in memory of their close friend and musician, JBT, who sadly died aged 40 from liver cancer.
Doing our part
Dave said: “Most of our gigs were in pubs with many a party developing during the evening. Our longest performance was over six hours (almost nonstop!) under the summer sun, during and after the Maidenhead Half Marathon.
“We got to meet some incredible people, including many (very generous) publicans and their customers. We even got to meet the Mayor of Maidenhead and Theresa May MP!
“While there are many deserving charities, The Retros chose CLIC Sargent because kids are the hope of the future."
"By using our musical talents to help support this fine charity, we were doing our part to make sure that any child stricken with cancer has every means to fight and beat this dreadful disease.”
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Charlie Straker said: “We really do appreciate everything that The Retros have done to join us in the fight for young lives with cancer; their support has been invaluable.
Dave and Rob were 100% committed to CLIC Sargent and proved this in the staggering amount they raised for children and young people with cancer.”
