Sherborne House school, Hiltingbury Junior school, and King's School are taking part in a fundraising event for CLIC Sargent, where they are sponsored to practice music or drama. The schools also have the option to retain 25% of funds raised for their school fundraising.
The vast majority of young people from Hampshire who are diagnosed with cancer are treated at Southampton General Hospital, where some of the CLIC Sargent team are based.
Close by to the hospital, CLIC Sargent has CLIC Haven, a Home from Home, where families can stay to be close to their loved one receiving cancer treatment. With the lease terminating in 2018, CLIC Sargent has had the opportunity to buy a bigger, more suitable house.
Thanks to the generosity of supporters, including Children with Cancer UK, CLIC Sargent purchased Jean’s House, our new Home from Home in Southampton.
The challenge now is to raise a further £400,000 to refurbish the house to make it into a seven bedroom house suitable to sleep seven families. The new home will also welcome non-resident families who are living on the wards, so they can seek some home comforts – have a shower, do some laundry or just have a cup of tea away from the hustle and bustle of the wards.
Vanessa Jarvis said: “I encouraged children to take part in a practicing event last year to encourage more practice of their instruments.
"It’s a great incentive for the pupils to also raise money to help local children with cancer at the same time."
"We hope they practice most days, but particularly as much as possible from 1 to 17 March to fundraise for CLIC Sargent. For some of the children, this fundraising event will also help them prepare to take part in the Southampton's Festival of Music and Drama.“

CLIC Sargent Fundraising Engagement Manager Liz Blunt said: “We are so pleased that local schools are helping us with this appeal for our new Home from Home in Southampton.
"Our new Home from Home will enable us to support more families. I hope that all the children taking part really work hard at their practice, as it is a wonderful skill to play a musical instrument and to feel confident to speak or play in public.”
