Daring fundraisers from across the South West put their fears aside to jump 10,000ft out of a plane at Redlands Airfield, Wanborough, on Saturday 21 July.
41 brave supporters took to the clear skies for this ultimate adrenalin pumping challenge, experiencing breath-taking views across Wiltshire and Oxfordshire.
In tackling this ‘Fright Flight’ the team managed to raise a staggering £18,000 in sponsorship to support young cancer patients. Top fundraisers among the brave jumpers included Callum Jennings, aged 17, who completed treatment for bone cancer in December 2010 and raised a staggering £2,000.
Paul Chubb, Team Leader at Sainsbury’s Trowbridge, raised an incredible £1,000 through the support of friends and family and bag packing at his store. Lastly, Charlotte Williams raised a fantastic £1,200 for a cause very close to her heart, following the loss of her brother to cancer.
Sophie Porfirio, Area Fundraising Manager for CLIC Sargent, congratulated all those who were brave enough to take part, “I’m so proud of all those who took part in the ‘Fright Flight’ skydive to raise money for CLIC Sargent, they are far braver than me. This is the second consecutive year that we have run this skydive at Redlands Airfield helping us raise over £30,000 overall, which will really make a difference to the lives of young cancer patients who we support.
“At the moment we can only help two out of three children and young people who need our support but I hope that more local residents will be inspired by incredible people like Callum, Paul and Charlotte and take on an exciting challenge on behalf of CLIC Sargent, so that we can help all young people with cancer live life to the full.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our jumpers for their tremendous fundraising, as well all of the staff and instructors at Redlands Airfield for keeping all of our participants so calm and giving them such an unforgettable experience."
