Rachael Adams to take on the Big Buzz

Rachael Adams, a young adult diagnosed with cancer, will be making a buzz when she has her hair cut to raise money for CLIC Sargent.

Rachael Adams to take on the Big Buzz

It is all part of CLIC Sargent’s Big Buzz, which encourages people to become LifeShavers to support children and young people with cancer, many of whom lose their hair during treatment.

Rachael was diagnosed with a very rare cancer on her small bowel called neuroendocrine cancer in February 2016. She was heartbroken as she had initially thought her tumour might have been benign but sadly the cancer had already spread to her lymph nodes.

Neuroendocrine cancer is a terminal cancer and has no known cure but Rachael takes a monthly hormone injection. She is unlikely to lose her hair, but has been so moved by the thought of those who do that she wanted to donate her hair anyway to make a wig for other young cancer patients.

A LifeShaver

Rachael will have her hair cut at The Hair Studio at the Ride for Hope charity event at Edge Church Bristol on 28 May 2016. The hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for young cancer patients using real donated hair, and the money will be donated to CLIC Sargent, which has been supporting Rachael.

Rachael said: “I feel nervous about the hair cut but children and young people being treated for cancer don’t have a choice about losing their hair. I know the money is going to a fantastic cause in CLIC Sargent and that is what’s inspiring me to go through with it.

“I am hoping to raise £1,000 to help children and young people who are coping with cancer.”

Thank you

CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Caroline Marshall said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to Rachael Adams for joining our Big Buzz campaign and becoming a LifeShaver.

“Every day 10 children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. Many will lose their hair during treatment and our Big Buzz campaign gives you the chance to show support for them by shaving your head and raising money for CLIC Sargent.

“At the moment we can only help two out of three children and young people diagnosed with cancer. We want to reach as many as possible and with your support we can do this.”
