#nomakeupselfie trend raises £10,000 for young cancer patients!

The generous response from the public has been simply inspiring! We want to say thank you to everyone who has shared a selfie, asked their friends and followers to do the same and has made a donation to support children and young people with cancer.

Many young people that have been supported by CLIC Sargent shared their own selfies, generating lots of positive feedback and comments. Leena was one of the young people who got involved, sharing her ‘no makeup, no hair’ selfie that was taken in 2006, when she was being treated for cancer and was first being supported by CLIC Sargent.

Leena said: “I had no idea my own selfie would inspire so many people to join in and raise an incredible amount for CLIC Sargent. I’m thrilled! Thank you so much to everyone who joined in with me, shared their #nomakeupselfie and donated to CLIC Sargent.

"Going through cancer at the age of 18 was really difficult and it also knocked my confidence, making me feel isolated.

I had no idea my own selfie would inspire so many people to join in and raise and incredible amount for CLIC Sargent.

“CLIC Sargent was and still proves to be a great support to me. They have given me so many opportunities, which have helped rebuild my confidence over the years. In 2008, CLIC Sargent organised for me to go to Glastonbury Festival, where I was able to meet other people who were in a similar position to me. It really helped me feel more like ‘me’ again and I made some great friends - some who I am still close to and unfortunately some who I have lost but I am grateful to have had the chance to have known them.

“I have always been very passionate about photography, I struggled with motivation after my treatment and CLIC Sargent has supported me through this. Last year I was given the opportunity to be their photographer during a weeklong music workshop, which again meant I had the chance to meet more amazing people whilst gaining vital experience in a profession I’d love to make my career."

Thank you again to everyone who got involved by sharing their pictures and making a donation to support children and young people with cancer.
