15-year-old Shelby Broom from Honiton went face to face with the clippers, raising a fantastic £800 as well as awareness for CLIC Sargent.
A confident Shelby, with hair past her shoulders, entered the hair salon, BOLTS in Honiton, who donated their venue and skills to ensure a clean cut, and came out with a grade one head shave.
Shelby is a cancer survivor herself, who has been cancer free for 11 years. She was diagnosed at just two years old with a Wilm's Tumour, and at the end of treatment Shelby relapsed 15 months later. She went through three years of treatment, which included chemotherapy, surgery, stem cell transplant and radiotherapy.
Shelby said: “I have decided I want to give back and help people who are, or about to go through the same as me.”
Shelby’s mum Susannah Cox added: “Shelby went through a lot while she was on treatment, but doesn't remember anything about it as she was so young, which makes us extra proud of her to feel so strongly about wanting to do this! We are all very proud of her.”
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Joy Petley said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to Shelby for joining our Big Buzz campaign and becoming a LifeShaver.
"Shelby is a truly inspirational girl. You can show your support for Shelby by visiting her JustGiving page.”
