CLIC Sargent pays tribute to Lord Attenborough

CLIC Sargent Chief Executive, Lorraine Clifton, paid tribute to Lord Richard Attenborough, CLIC Sargent Ambassador and acclaimed actor and film director and producer, who died on 24 August.

“Lord Attenborough was a dedicated supporter of CLIC Sargent, and I want to pay tribute to him for the many years of help he gave the charity to enable us to achieve our goal to provide better support to children and young people with cancer and their families in the UK.

“Lord Attenborough’s talents and contribution to the British film industry and wider culture and society are clear; he is a great loss and I would like to offer my condolences on behalf of the rest of CLIC Sargent to his friends and family.”

Lord Attenborough was a great friend of Sir Malcolm Sargent, the late conductor, whose legacy supported the foundation of Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children in 1968. The charity merged with CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood) to form CLIC Sargent in 2005. Lord Attenborough was originally Sir Malcolm’s music pupil at school. They shared a lifelong friendship, and Lord Attenborough has supported the charity from its foundation.
