Popcorn partnership bags over £15,000 for children and young people with cancer

A partnership between snack brand Metcalfe’s skinny and CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, has raised over £15,000 in its first year.

Metcalfe’s skinny teamed up with the charity in February 2014 to rename its classic Sea Salt skinny popcorn to CLIC Sargent Salt Topcorn.  For each packet sold, a donation is made to help the charity provide practical and emotional support to children and young people with cancer aged 0-24.

Over £11,000 has been raised by sales of the charity popcorn to date and staff at Metcalfe’s Skinny have raised an additional £4,000 by taking part in sponsored cycle rides, the charity’s annual fundraiser Wig Wednesday and various other events in the past year.

A variety pack has now also been produced which includes the CLIC Sargent Salt popcorn, and Metcalfe’s skinny hope that as a result, they will be able to make an even bigger donation to the charity next year.

Lucy Caldicott, Director of Fundraising at CLIC Sargent said: “Eating delicious popcorn while raising money for a good cause at the same time is proving pretty popular - and we’re absolutely delighted!

"With the support of the lovely people at Metcalfe’s Food Company we’re working hard to put the money raised to good use, and helping children and young people cope with cancer and get the most out of life.

Aims to raise another £20,000

Metcalfe’s Food Company, which owns the Metcalfe’s skinny brand, was founded by Julian Metcalfe, founder of the Pret A Manger and itsu food retail chains. Launched in 2009, its products are stocked by nationwide retailers including Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose.

Julian Metcalfe, Creative Director of Metcalfe’s Food Company said: “The team at CLIC Sargent make a huge difference to the quality of life of children and young people with cancer and their families, and we’re hugely proud to be a part of that.

“We’re hoping to raise at least another £20,000 for CLIC Sargent in the next two years.

“If we reach our total, it means the money raised could pay for 1,000 overnight stays at CLIC Sargent’s brilliant Homes from Home – so get snacking!”
