A film released today, based on the bestselling Mum's List book by St John Greene, is the heart-warming true story of Singe and Kate, a couple from North Somerset, whose lives were turned upside down when their son Reef was diagnosed with cancer and later when Kate was diagnosed with an incurable breast cancer.
Over her last few months Kate created her list: writing her thoughts and memories down to help the man she loved create the best life possible for their two sons after she was gone.
This list went on to become an international bestseller and has now been made into a film starring Rafe Spall and Emilia Fox.
When Reef was diagnosed the family received support from CLIC Sargent and at a special film premiere in Clevedon last night there was a bucket collection to raise vital funds for the charity.
St John said: “CLIC Sargent gave us so much support when Reef was diagnosed with cancer as a baby, their nurses were incredible and helped me and his mum through it. We couldn’t have coped without that support, and no family should have to go without it.
“It feels great to be able to raise awareness and vital funds for the charity through this wonderful film. I hope all CLIC Sargent’s amazing supporters enjoy the film!”
Mairi Wilson, Fundraising Manager at CLIC Sargent, said: “When cancer strikes young lives we fight tirelessly to limit the damage it causes beyond their health. We rely entirely on donations to fund our vital work and so we can’t thank St John enough for helping us out with the bucket collection.
“Thanks everyone who donated generously in Clevedon, we will be able to help even more young people like Reef and their families.”
