Derbyshire dad David Weedon is taking to the ring for a charity boxing bout in aid of CLIC Sargent. His son, Tomasz, now five, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in September 2011, five days after his second birthday.
For over three years Tomasz has been receiving treatment for cancer. CLIC Sargent helped to support him and his family during this time.
David said: "I've signed up to this to raise money for CLIC Sargent, as a way of giving something back, to promote the charity, and as a thank you from the family. I have wanted to do something for a long time.
"From the very start, CLIC Sargent has been a big support, especially on the practical side.
"CLIC Sargent also has a place where we go on holiday, Malcolm Sargent House, in Scotland.
The charity takes care of everything – when you have a child who's suffering, you worry about everything.
"Tomasz's hospital treatment ended in January and he now faces regular visits to hospital which will end on his 18th birthday."
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Andrew Fuller said: "I have had the pleasure of meeting David numerous times and it is clear how determined he is to raise funds and awareness for CLIC Sargent.
"Facing childhood cancer is a devastating experience for the whole family. Normal everyday life is turned upside down.
"During treatment families can be separated for long periods and may have to travel long distances for treatment and hospital appointments, which can cause families added upset and affect them financially.
"We are very happy that David has chosen to support CLIC Sargent with his fundraising, which helps the charity to continue to provide its vital services to other families in the same situation. We wish them both every success."
