Sam Tucker, 15, from Weston-super-Mare shaved his head on 15 December in support of his best friend Chloe, who is currently undergoing treatment for lymphoma.
Sam has been described as 'selfless' and 'thoughtful' by friends and family. He is awaiting open heart surgery at Bristol Children’s Hospital due to two heart conditions.
Before his Big Buzz head shave, Sam said: “I've been growing my hair for a year now in hope it would stay long. I've been really protective when my parents told me to get a haircut.
"But as soon as I found out that Chloe had cancer (again) I flipped. I'm shaving something important to me to show how much I care about my best friend.”
CLIC Sargent Fundraisng Manager Victoria Williams said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to Sam for becoming a LifeShaver for CLIC Sargent. It is incredible to hear his story and how he is supporting Chloe.
“Every day 10 children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. Many will lose their hair during treatment and our Big Buzz campaign gives you the chance to show support for them by shaving your head and raising money for CLIC Sargent.
“At the moment we can only help two out of three children and young people diagnosed with cancer. We want to reach as many as possible and with your support we can do this.”
