Friends and family of four-year-old Harry organised a charity boxing event to raise money for children and young people with cancer.
Harry was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2015. He and his family are currently being supported by CLIC Sargent Social Worker Lucy and CLIC Sargent Nurse Karen.
Harry’s mum Rachel has been fundraising for CLIC Sargent and recently organised a charity boxing event in order to raise money for children and young people with cancer.
On the night, they had 17 fights with boxers who had never boxed before. They were all volunteers that were put through eight gruelling weeks of training, and then matched up to people of equal level.
Rachel said: “Each boxer had their own journey that they overcame through training and made some firm friends. They all feel in love with Harry and said that him coming along to their training sessions pushed them through as they saw what he can overcome.
“It was a truly amazing night and if love for Harry on the night could cure cancer then we wouldn't be where we are now that's for sure. He absolutely loved his moment.”
For one of the boxers, getting in the ring is not the last time they will be putting themselves in the thick of it for charity. Phil Harris has also managed to get a place in the Virgin London Marathon 2017, and is running for CLIC Sargent!
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Charlie Straker said: “This family have shown outstanding support for CLIC Sargent, with Harry even helping the charity to promote the sale of Jasper, a new soft toy that can be bought at H.Samuel, Ernest Jones and Leslie Davis stores across the UK.
“We are very happy that Harry and his family have chosen to support CLIC Sargent with their fundraising, as this helps the charity to continue to provide its vital services to other families in the same situation.”
