When Luke first set himself the target of raising £50,000 over two years for CLIC Sargent in memory of his mum Veronica Claxton, he never thought he would be close to hitting it within just 10 months. Next month he looks set to hit his goal.
With his main fundraising event, a Golf Day, due to take place in July, Luke is so close to achieving his target and will definitely reach £50,000 before his first year is up.
How has he done it?
Luke has done everything from organising a virtual cycle to Lapland at Christmas to a weekly football premier predictor, with a variety of other fundraising events in between.
Luke has also successfully managed to get local corporates involved as well as family and friends, and has obtained sponsorship for many of his events enabling all the money raised to go to CLIC Sargent. One big event was a corporate boxing night which raised £4,000 alone.
What’s next for Luke?
Luke is already planning future fundraising activities including a 100K walk, a big Christmas event and running the London Marathon next year - so he will not be stopping at £50,000.
Overall Luke has raised nearly £120,000 for charity, which is a remarkable achievement.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Karen Roberts said: "When Luke first said he planned on raising £50,000 in two years I never imagined he would raise it in less than one.
"I really hope that he hits £50,000 at the Golf Day - CLIC Sargent is delighted that he intends to carry on and raise even more in his mum’s memory to help children and young people with cancer."
