As part of a year-long fundraising campaign, club officials from Norfolk and Suffolk Youth League’s teams went head to head in a football match that raised over £2,000 for CLIC Sargent.
As part of Neil Smith’s year-long fundraising campaign as Provincial Grand Primo of the Royal Antediluvian Order of the Buffaloes, the Norfolk and Suffolk Youth Football League took part in the Chairman versus Presidents 11-a-side football match in aid of CLIC Sargent at Gorleston FC.
The match was said to be extremely close, with Chairman and Presidents so evenly matched that the tournament went to 3-3 until the Chairman’s team succeeded in winning at penalties.
Mr Smith, of Beccles, said: “I have been amazed at the generosity of everyone involved helping to raise over £2,000 for a charity which provides vital support to families coping with childhood cancer.
“I would like to thank Gorleston FC for generously allowing us to use their ground free of charge and the brilliant players involved.
"The Norfolk and Suffolk Youth Football League (NSYFL) has been a great support throughout my year of fundraising; I couldn’t have done it without them.”
Mr Smith had previously set a fundraising target of £6,000 but with the phenomenal success of the charity tournament, he has now reached £6,533 and hopes to reach £8,000 before the end of the year.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Daisy Turner said: “We are thrilled the tournament was such a success and are so grateful to all the players involved.
"Last year CLIC Sargent cared for 140 children with cancer and their families living in Norfolk and Suffolk which is why the support of fundraisers such as Neil and the NSYFL is so important to help us to continue our work.”
