All wrapped up since 2001

CLIC Sargent Gift Wrapping Service began in Belfast in 2001 and is still going strong. Since then it has raised almost £144,000 for children and young people with cancer.

All wrapped up since 2001

Each year the Northern Ireland Fundraising Team organise a Gift Wrapping Service. The event is held in Castlecourt Shopping Mall, Belfast and is run in conjunction with the centre's management.

The event runs from the beginning of December to Christmas Eve and all sorts of presents of all shapes and sizes are lovingly wrapped by CLIC Sargent volunteers.

A successful event

The first event took place in December 2001 with one table inside Debenhams and a handful of volunteers. It became so popular with shoppers that it had to moved into the mall of Castlecourt where CLIC Sargent was provided with stands by the shopping centre.

Over the years the event continued to grow and required bigger stands. One of CLIC Sargent's very loyal volunteers who is a carpenter created six new stands, which allows five wrappers wrapping at any one time.

Popular with businesses

The event is very popular with some local businesses, that allow their staff time off to come and work at the Gift Wrap for a few hours. Local schools are also encouraged to go along to Castlecourt and entertain shoppers with their Christmas carols. Since 2001 the event has brought in almost £144,000 for CLIC Sargent. With so many volunteers donating their services, it is always a real team effort.

Giving something back

CLIC Sargent volunteer Alisha Watters said: "The Gift Wrap is an excellent way of giving something back to the community.

The Gift Wrap is an excellent opportunity to highlight what CLIC Sargent does.

"The Gift wrap has become part of the landscape at Castlecourt during the Christmas period."

CLIC Sargent in Northern Ireland would like to thank the management of Castlecourt for their continued support.
